NZ Quake - Christchurch

4 min 6 sec ago
To my friends in the rowing scene in Christchurch.
I understand that the quake has done quite extensive damage to the
older rowing club buildings. I hope not too much damage was done to
the boats and oars, so that people can still find a way to row.
Sadly, though, I've heard that Avon and Union may need to be

Rowing v Sculling

4 min 6 sec ago
We all know that sculling is much better for young people than sweep
rowing due to the more even forces put on their developing bodies, so
much so that the ARA some years ago (10+ ? ) encouraged clubs not to
allow under 16s to row but to scull instead. I'm a bit out of touch
with UK rowing so I'm not sure if this approach from the powers that

Boat booking software

4 min 6 sec ago
Does anyone have a recommendation for boat booking software, I have
seen it working in a Dutch club. We have a selection of new
recreational boats for the new British Rowing Explore Rowing scheme. I
am coordinating the scheme at our club and once we have launched and
have a pool of competent recreational rowers I want to be able to let

compression at the catch

4 min 6 sec ago
I have difficulty in getting a long reach at the catch so that my
shins are vertical and thighs against chest, and arms outside boat,
and therefore not making full use of leg power. Are there any rigging
adjustments that might assist? i.e. increasing span from 159 to 160
for instance?

great European regattas... help needed

I am going to be in Europe for a year, and would like to take
advantage of the opportunity to have new racing experiences.
Any suggestions on classic European regattas to enter? I have a
preference for head races. (and suggestions on how to rent/borrow a
single if my club isn't entering the race)

Patience at the Catch

Thu, 02/09/2010 - 14:30
Dear all,
For some time now I have been contemplating the idea of patience at
the catch. It is an idea that was once beloved by me. Now I wonder.
Does patience have any value at all when it comes to making a good
catch?
My reason for asking this is that it seems to me implicit in the idea
of patience is the notion of awaiting an outcome. Consider, for

best GPS for rowing

I'm using a Garmin Forerunner 305, and when this is used by my wife, a
Garmin Edge 305.
In these years I found out what are the most important features for
rowing training.
1) km count
2) pace display in time/km (Forerunner only)
3) display size, Edge is better then Forerunner
4) programmable workouts with beeps at interval changes, piece/rest
